WBDA Tournament 2017 – Clash of the Plains

February 18/19, 2017.

This year’s Wayne WBDA Youth Basketball Tournament was a Great Success.  The tournament started on Saturday at the Community Activity Center with the 4th grade boys & girls teams along with the 5th grade boys teams.  The City Auditorium hosted the 5th grade girls while the 6th grade boys and girls teams competed at Wayne High and Wayne Elementary gyms.  On Sunday, Jr. High teams competed with the 7th and 8th grade girls at the Community Activity Center while the 7th and 8th grade boys competed at the Wayne High and Wayne Elementary gyms.  The tournament brought over 3000 people to Wayne America to experience 100 games between 66 teams, representing 19 towns in 2 days.

 

The WBDA Board would like to extend a special thank you to the over 200 Volunteers, Tournament Sponsors, WBDA Sponsors, Referees, and the Tournament Committee for making the tournament a special and memorable experience for all those who participated and attended.  Without ALL of you, this tournament would not be possible.

Wayne 7th Boys take 1st Place at the WBDA Tournament

Sunday, Feb. 19, the 7th Grade WBDA boys’ team competed in the Wayne Tournament.  The tournament was a four-team round robin division including Laurel, Clarkson, Crofton and Wayne.  Both Wayne and Laurel went 2-0 in their first two games, which setup a late day game between the two teams for the championship.  Wayne came out on top beating Laurel 38-30, taking 1st place in the tournament.  Congratulations to the players and coaches!  #wayneyouthbasketball

7th Grade Girls finish with 2nd Place in the Wayne Tournament

Sunday, February 19th, the 7th Grade WBDA Girls competed in the Wayne Youth Basketball Tournament.  The 7th grade division included two pools of teams.  The blue pool included Pender, Wayne and Elkhorn Valley and the red pool included Norfolk Catholic, Hartington Cedar and David City.  Wayne finished as the top seed of the blue pool beating Pender 23-14 and Elkhorn Valley 29-9. In the red pool, Norfolk Catholic came out as the top seed.  Wayne and Norfolk Catholic met in the Championship game.  Wayne led at half time 10-6, but could not hold off Norfolk Catholic eventually losing 24-15 to take 2nd place in the tournament.  Congratulations to the Players and Coaches on a Great Tournament!  #wayneyouthbasketball

8th Grade Girls take 3rd Place at the WBDA Tournament

Sunday, February 19th, the 8th grade WBDA girls played in the Wayne Tournament.  The girls competed in an 8-team bracket beating Osmond in their first game.  In their second game, the girls came up short losing to O’Neill.  The loss put them in the 3rd place game versus Hartington Cedar where Wayne came out on top winning 26-25.  Congratulations to the Players and Coach Chamberlain on your 3rd place finish!  #wayneyouthbasketball

It’s Tournament Time! Youth Basketball is in Wayne this Weekend

The Annual WBDA Tournament is this Weekend

Saturday, February 18 and Sunday, February 19 will be the Annual WBDA “Clash of the Plains” Wayne Youth Basketball Tournament.

 

On Saturday, games start at 9:30 am.  Boys and girls grades 4th through 6th will be playing Saturday with games at the Wayne Activity Center, Wayne City Auditorium, Wayne Elementary and Wayne High School.

 

On Sunday, games start at 11:00 for boys & girls 7th through 8th grades.  Sunday games are at the Wayne Activity Center, Wayne Elementary and Wayne High School.

 

Come out and root for your team….if you are a Basketball Fan, Wayne is the place to be this Weekend!

 

 

 

4th Grade Boys place 2nd at the NEN Tournament

Sunday, February 12th, the 4th grade WBDA boys played in the NEN Norfolk Tournament.  The boys competed in Division III beating both the Humphrey Bulldogs and Columbus Rocks by double digits.  The Wayne boys also played the Norfolk Jr. Panthers.  The Norfolk/Wayne game was a tough battle throughout, but Wayne came up short in the end, losing 20-22.  With the loss, Wayne finished the tournament with a 2nd place finish.  Congratulations to the Players and Coaches on a Great Tournament!  #wayneyouthbasketball

 

 

5th Grade Boys take 2nd Place at the NEN Tournament

Saturday, Feb. 11, the 5th Grade WBDA Boys competed in the NEN Norfolk YMCA Basketball Tournament.  The Division II bracket consisted of Wayne, Norfolk Catholic, Elkhorn Valley and Twin River.  The Wayne boys won 2 of their 3 games beating Elkhorn Valley and Twin River, but fell to Norfolk Catholic.  The boys finished the day in 2nd place.  Congratulations to the players and coaches!  #wayneyouthbasketball

5th Grade Girls Take 2nd Place at the NEN Tournament

On Sunday, Feb. 12, 5th Grade WBDA Girls competed in the Norfolk YMCA NEN Youth Basketball Tournament.  The Division II bracket consisted of Wayne, Columbus Lady Vikes, Columbus Rocks and the NCYAC (Bassett) region team.  Wayne won its first two games by double-digits against the Columbus Lady Vikes and Columbus Rocks, before falling to NCYAC in what amounted to the championship game.  The Wayne 5th grade girls went 2-1 and finished in second place.  This was Wayne’s first tournament of the season.  #wayneyouthbasketball

 

 

WBDA Night at WSC was Exciting till the Final Buzzer

Friday, February 3rd, WBDA Night at Wayne State was exciting for all who attended.  At time outs, half times, and breaks in play, many WBDA players competed in games and competitions on the court.

 

In the Women’s game, WSC gained a 26-9 lead after the first quarter, but Bemidji came back in the second quarter narrowing the lead to 35-33 at half time.  In the third quarter, Wayne State went on a 12-2 run and held off Bemidji for the win, 70-65.

 

In the Men’s game, it was exciting until the final buzzer.  The WSC men were leading at half-time 29-16 but Bemidji fought back into the game and with 5.2 seconds left, WSC was leading 76-75.  Bemidji was able to get a 25′ shot off at the buzzer to beat Wayne State 78-76.

WBDA Night at Wayne State College

Players, Parents, and Fans are invited to WBDA night at WSC!  This Friday, February 3 the Wildcats take on Bemidji State with the Women’s basketball game starting at 6:00 followed by the Men’s game at 8:00.

 

All WBDA players are encouraged to attend the game because Wayne State College will be allowing FREE admission to all players who wear their WBDA shooting shirts.  Also parents, it is Wayne Herald night at WSC.  This week’s Wayne Herald has a coupon for one FREE game ticket.

 

A special thanks to Wayne State College and Athletic Director, Mike Powicki for making this a special event for WBDA players.
