Saturday, March 4, the 7th grade boys WBDA team competed in the Hop’s Hoops Classic in David City, NE.  The 7th grade division included two pools of teams.  Pool A included David City Aquinas, Seward and West Point.  Pool B included Legends Silver, Ashland and Wayne.  Wayne finished pool play beating Legends 30-13 and losing to Ashland 56-45.  With the 1-1 record in pool play Wayne was set to play Aquinas for 3rd place.  Wayne competed hard throughout the game and finished with a 46-26 win and 3rd place in the tournament.  Congratulations to the Players and Coaches! #wayneyouthbasketball

Sunday, March 5, the 7th grade girls WBDA team competed in their final tournament of the year at the Hop’s Hoops Classic in David City, NE.  The 7th grade division included two pools of teams.  Pool A included David City Aquinas, Aurora and Twin River.  Pool B included David City Explorers, Wayne and Malcom.  Wayne finished as the top seed of Pool B beating Malcom 41-12 and David City Explorers 34-14.  In Pool B, Aurora came out as the top seed beating Twin River 31-4 and Aquinas 25-15.  Wayne and Aurora met in the Championship game, where Wayne led throughout the game and finished with a 23-15 win.  The win gave the 7th grade girls 1st place for their final tournament of the year.  The team finished the season 14-6.  Congratulations to the Players and Coaches on a Great Season!   #wayneyouthbasketball

Saturday, March 4th, the WBDA 5th Grade Boys competed in the Hop’s Hoops Classic in David City.  Their division was a 4-team round robin, which included Wayne, Nebraska Christian, David City Aquinas and David City Explorers.  Wayne won their first game versus the Explorers, but fell in their second game to Aquinas.  Wayne played Nebraska Christian in their final game of the day, which turned out to be tight and highly competitive.  In the end, Wayne came out with the win and a 2nd place finish.  Congrats to the players and coaches!  #wayneyouthbasketball

Saturday, March 4th, the 4th grade WBDA boys played in the Hop’s Hoops Classic in David City.  The boys division included 4 teams, Wayne, David City Explorers, David City Aquinas, and Seward.  The boys lost their first game versus David City Aquinas (36-13), but finished the day with 2 solid wins against the Explorers (30-12) and Seward (22-14).  By winning the last two games, Wayne finished with 2nd place.  Congratulations to the Players on a Great Tournament!  #wayneyouthbasketball

This was the final tournament of the year for the 5th grade girls.  The season culminated, in what is becoming an annual event for this team, with the coaches post-season water bottle shower.  See the video Here!

Sunday, March 5th, the 8th grade WBDA team competed in the Hop’s Hoops Classic in David City, NE.  The 8th grade girls division consisted of four teams, Wayne, Boone Central, David City Explorers, and David City Aquinas.  The tournament was close throughout with most games won by less than six points.  Wayne finished with 2nd place by beating both Aquinas and Boone Central.  Congratulations players and coaches!  #wayneyouthbasketball

Saturday, Feb. 25, the 6th Grade WBDA girls’ team competed in the Hartington Cedar Boosters Club Tournament.  The 6th grade division included Wayne, Hartington Cedar, Wakefield, Wausa, Crofton and Yankton.  Wayne played two games in the tournament.  Wayne’s first game was a win versus Crofton, but lost their second game versus Yankton.  By going 1-1 in the tournament, the girls finished with 2nd place.  Congratulations to the players and coaches!  #wayneyouthbasketball

Saturday, Feb. 25, the 7th Grade WBDA Boys team played in the Wahoops Basketball Tournament in Wahoo, NE.  Wayne first played David City Aquinas Pride winning 47-18.  In their second game of the day, Wayne played Logan View/Scribner-Snyder winning 43-35.  In the final game of the day, the Wayne boys played Wahoo Bishop Neumann winning 39-32.  The 7th Grade team placed 1st in the tournament.  Congratulations Players and Coaches!  #wayneyouthbasketball

Saturday, Feb. 25, the 7th Grade WBDA girls’ team competed in the Norfolk Catholic Tournament.  The tournament was a four-team round robin including Wayne, Crofton, Battle Creek and Norfolk Catholic.  Wayne went 2-0 in their first two games, beating Crofton 35-31 and Battle Creek 36-26.  Wayne’s final game was versus Norfolk Catholic.  At half time, the score was 20-12 with Norfolk leading and after 3 quarters, the score was 25-13.  Wayne fought back in the 4th quarter coming within 4 points of Norfolk, but came up short in the end losing 32-25.  Wayne finished the tournament with a 2nd place finish.  Congratulations to the players and coaches on a great tournament!  #wayneyouthbasketball

This year’s Wayne WBDA Youth Basketball Tournament was a Great Success.  The tournament started on Saturday at the Community Activity Center with the 4th grade boys & girls teams along with the 5th grade boys teams.  The City Auditorium hosted the 5th grade girls while the 6th grade boys and girls teams competed at Wayne High and Wayne Elementary gyms.  On Sunday, Jr. High teams competed with the 7th and 8th grade girls at the Community Activity Center while the 7th and 8th grade boys competed at the Wayne High and Wayne Elementary gyms.  The tournament brought over 3000 people to Wayne America to experience 100 games between 66 teams, representing 19 towns in 2 days.

The WBDA Board would like to extend a special thank you to the over 200 Volunteers, Tournament Sponsors, WBDA Sponsors, Referees, and the Tournament Committee for making the tournament a special and memorable experience for all those who participated and attended.  Without ALL of you, this tournament would not be possible.
