5th Grade Girls Take 2nd Place at the NEN Tournament

On Sunday, Feb. 12, 5th Grade WBDA Girls competed in the Norfolk YMCA NEN Youth Basketball Tournament.  The Division II bracket consisted of Wayne, Columbus Lady Vikes, Columbus Rocks and the NCYAC (Bassett) region team.  Wayne won its first two games by double-digits against the Columbus Lady Vikes and Columbus Rocks, before falling to NCYAC in what amounted to the championship game.  The Wayne 5th grade girls went 2-1 and finished in second place.  This was Wayne’s first tournament of the season.  #wayneyouthbasketball

 

 

WBDA Night at WSC was Exciting till the Final Buzzer

Friday, February 3rd, WBDA Night at Wayne State was exciting for all who attended.  At time outs, half times, and breaks in play, many WBDA players competed in games and competitions on the court.

 

In the Women’s game, WSC gained a 26-9 lead after the first quarter, but Bemidji came back in the second quarter narrowing the lead to 35-33 at half time.  In the third quarter, Wayne State went on a 12-2 run and held off Bemidji for the win, 70-65.

 

In the Men’s game, it was exciting until the final buzzer.  The WSC men were leading at half-time 29-16 but Bemidji fought back into the game and with 5.2 seconds left, WSC was leading 76-75.  Bemidji was able to get a 25′ shot off at the buzzer to beat Wayne State 78-76.

WBDA Night at Wayne State College

Players, Parents, and Fans are invited to WBDA night at WSC!  This Friday, February 3 the Wildcats take on Bemidji State with the Women’s basketball game starting at 6:00 followed by the Men’s game at 8:00.

 

All WBDA players are encouraged to attend the game because Wayne State College will be allowing FREE admission to all players who wear their WBDA shooting shirts.  Also parents, it is Wayne Herald night at WSC.  This week’s Wayne Herald has a coupon for one FREE game ticket.

 

A special thanks to Wayne State College and Athletic Director, Mike Powicki for making this a special event for WBDA players.

3rd & 4th Girls have Success in Laurel League

The 3rd & 4th grade WBDA girls team competed in the Laurel Basketball League this January.  Their hard work in practice showed as they finished the league with 4 wins and 0 losses.  Congratulations players and coaches!  Now onto tournaments, Good Luck with the rest of your season!

Wayne High Wins Two at WBDA Night

WBDA Night at Wayne High was a Great Success.  The Stands were Full, the Crowd was Loud and Both Blue Devil Teams Won!

 

In the Girl’s game we saw Wayne beat Hartington Cedar 71-58 and Kylie Hammer score her 1,000th point.  Congratulations Kylie!

 

In the Boy’s game we were on the edge of our seats as Wayne won 51-46.

 

It was a Great Night of Basketball!

3rd & 4th Grade Girls Finish 2nd in Crofton Tournament

Saturday, January 21st the 3rd & 4th Grade WBDA Girls competed in a tournament in Crofton, NE.  The team played 2 games in the tourney first beating Crofton 16-15.  In the Championship game vs Hartington Cedar, Wayne played hard but fell short 24-6.   It was a great first tournament for the girls.  Congratulations Players and Coaches on your 2nd place finish!  #wayneyouthbasketball

 

 

7th Grade Girls place 2nd in Crofton Tournament

Saturday, January 21st the 7th Grade WBDA Girls competed in a tournament in Crofton, NE.  The team played 3 games in the tourney first beating Sioux City West 21-17 and then Crofton’s 7th grade team 30-28.  In the championship game Wayne played the Crofton 8th grade team.  At the end of the 1st quarter the score was 11-14 but Crofton continued pressure and a strong inside game beating Wayne 53-23.  Wayne finish with 2nd place in the tournament.  Congratulations Players and Coaches!  #wayneyouthbasketball

WBDA Night at Wayne High

Come Cheer on the Blue Devils!

 

Put Friday, January 20th on your calendar as WBDA Night!  Wayne High Basketball will be playing Hartington Cedar Catholic in 4 games.  The evening will start with the JV Girls game at 4:15 at the High School and the JV Boys game at 4:15 at the Elementary School.  Following the JV games the Girls Varsity game will start at 6:15, followed by the Boys Varsity game at 8:00 at the High School.

 

All WBDA players are encouraged to attend the game because Wayne High will be allowing FREE admission to all players who wear their WBDA shooting shirts.  So be sure to come to the game on January 20 and support the Blue Devils!

7th Grade Girls Place 1st in North Bend Tournament

Saturday, January 7th the 7th Grade WBDA Girls competed in a tournament in North Bend, NE.  The team started out pushing the ball and applying pressure to beat Logan View 33-4.  The Championship Game vs North Bend was a hard fought game down to the final seconds with Wayne coming out with the win, 28-26.  It was a great first tournament for the 7th Grade Girls!  Congratulations Players and Coaches on the 1st Place Finish!  #wayneyouthbasketball
