The 8th Grade Boys WBDA Basketball team competed in the NEN Tournament on Saturday, February 25th and came away with a runner-up finish. Wayne opened tournament play with a close loss to Crofton, but rebounded to pick up back-to-back wins over the Walnut Warriors (Grand Island) and Madison to finish 2-1 on the day, earning a silver medal.
The 6th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed in the NEN Tournament on Saturday, February 25th, winning their division with a 3-0 record. Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket and opened play with a solid victory over O’Neill. Wayne faced a tough battle in their second contest, but picked up a dramatic overtime victory over Crofton. In their final game, Wayne had another competitive contest and was able to come away with a 33-31 victory over Norfolk Catholic for a perfect record and a gold medal.
The Wayne 5th Grade Boys WBDA Team competed in the NEN Tournament on Sunday, February 26th and came home with first-place honors. Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket and picked up wins over Norfolk, Norfolk Catholic and Hartington Cedar Catholic en route to a 3-0 record and the gold medal!
The Wayne 4th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed in the NEN Tournament in Norfolk on Saturday, February 25th in a four-team round-robin bracket. Wayne opened tournament play with a 28-12 win over Pierce and followed that up with a 43-9 victory over Hartington-Newcastle.
Wayne found itself in a very competitive battle in the championship game with Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family. The game was close the entire way, with Wayne grabbing its first lead of the game with just over a minute to play and then holding on for a 29-28 victory to end the day with a 3-0 record and the tournament championship.
The Wayne 8th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team competed in the NEN Tournament in Norfolk on Sunday, February 26th and came home with first-place honors. Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket and started off tournament play with a 24-22 win over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family. In their second contest, Wayne rallied from a large halftime deficit to come back and defeat Hartington Cedar Catholic 21-17.
Wayne capped off their tournament play with a solid 29-17 win over North Central (Bassett) to go 3-0 on the day for first place honors.
The 7th grade girls WBDA basketball team competed at the NEN Tournament in Norfolk on Sunday, February 26th and competed in a six-team bracket along with Columbus Scotus, Hartington-Newcastle, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, Norfolk Catholic, and Pierce.
Wayne opened pool play with a 25-14 win over Norfolk Catholic and then held off a feisty Hartington-Newcastle team to pick up a 27-23 win in double overtime to advance out of pool play into the championship game. In the final, Wayne was able to record a solid 30-22 win over Columbus Scotus to win the 7th grade division and take home a gold medal.
The 6th grade girls WBDA basketball team competed at the NEN Shootout in Norfolk on Saturday, February 25th and came home with a runner-up finish. Wayne opened the day with a win over North Central and then came out with a great win over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in a tight contest. Wayne fell to Norfolk Catholic in the championship game to take home a silver medal with a great 2-1 record.
The 6th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed in their home tournament on Saturday, February 18th in a six-team bracket that also featured Elkhorn Valley, Hartington-Newcastle, Holy Trinity, Pender, and Wakefield.
Wayne opened pool play with a 42-30 win over Wakefield, and followed that up with a 35-19 win over Hartington-Newcastle to go 2-0 and advance to the championship game. In the final, Wayne fell in a tough contest to Elkhorn Valley to finish as tournament runner-up. Congratulations sixth grade on your finish!
The Wayne 8th Grade Girls WBDA Basketball Team finished third in a very tough, very balanced eight-team bracket on Sunday, February 19th in their home WBDA Tournament in Wayne. Teams making up the tournament included Crofton, Elkhorn Valley, Laurel, Ponca, Raymond Central, Wayne, Winnebago and Wisner.
Wayne opened up the tournament with a 24-20 first round victory over Crofton, then fell to Laurel by a score of 37-24 in the semifinals. In the consolation contest, Wayne defeated Ponca 26-18 to secure third place.
The Wayne 7th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team competed in their home tournament on Sunday, February 19th in a six-team bracket which also included Hartington Cedar Catholic, Norfolk Catholic, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Hartington-Newcastle, and the Badgers Babez out of Macy, Nebraska.
In pool play, Wayne opened their tournament with a 20-8 win over Cedar Catholic and followed that up with a 21-11 win over Norfolk Catholic to advance to the championship game. In that final game, Wayne fell in a tightly contested battle with Guardian Angels Central Catholic by a score of 24-16 to finish as tournament runner-up.
