Junior High Girls Compete at MIT Tournament

The Wayne 7th and 8th grade girls WBDA basketball teams played together as a combined group in the top division of the Midwest Invitational Tournament in Lincoln on March 11th and 12th. Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket against the Lincoln Shockerz, Southern and the Mambas out of St. Joseph, Missouri.

Wayne opened play on Saturday with a 24-21 win over the St. Joseph Mambas and followed that up with a tough 42-31 loss to the Lincoln Shockerz. On Sunday, Wayne played Southern, falling in a defensive battle 25-18.

This concludes the season for the junior high girls teams and is an end to the WBDA careers of five 8th grade girls.  Congratulations on your accomplishments and good luck with your basketball futures 8th graders!

6th Grade Girls Runner-UP at MIT Tournament

The 6th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team competed in the Midwest Invitational Tournament in Lincoln on March 11th and 12th. Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket along with Falls City Sacred Heart, Lincoln Champions and Norris.

Wayne opened up play on Saturday with a 28-13 win over the Lincoln Champions.  After getting the remainder of the day off, Wayne came back the next day and fell in their Sunday opener in a tight contest 19-14 to Falls City Sacred Heart. In their final game of the day, the Wayne 6th graders put together a dominant performance, defeating Norris 20-6 to finish 2-1 in the tournament and take home runner-up honors.  Congratulations players and coaches on a great season.

8th Grade Boys Compete at MIT

The 8th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team completed their season at the Midwest Invitational Tournament in Lincoln on March 11th and 12th.  Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket along with Milford, Palmyra and Wausa.

Wayne opened up tournament play with a 25-21 loss to Wausa and rebounded with a 44-25 victory over Palmyra to close out the first day of competition. On Sunday, Wayne competed with Milford, falling in a thrilling 44-43 overtime contest.

This marks the end of the season and WBDA careers of the 8th grade boys.  Congratulations and good luck in your basketball futures!

7th Grade Boys Win MIT Championship

The 7th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed in the Midwest Invitational Tournament in Lincoln on March 11th and 12th and came away with a gold medal in their division.

Wayne competed in a six-team division along with Lincoln Clippers, Lincoln ABA, Lincoln Sonics, Norris and Walthill.  Wayne swept through pool play, going 2-0 with a 45-20 win over the Lincoln Sonics and also picked up a 52-37 win over Lincoln ABA.

Sunday saw Wayne matchup with Walthill in a thriller of a championship game, with Wayne outlasting Walthill 57-56 in overtime to take home the gold.  Congratulations players and coaches!

5th Grade Boys win MIT Championship

The 5th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed in the Midwest Invitational Tournament in Lincoln March 12th and 13th. Wayne competed in a six-team division along with Auburn, Lincoln En Fuego, Lincoln Legends, Sandy Creek and Sutton.

Wayne swept through pool play picking up a 38-27 win over Auburn and a 39-33 win over Lincoln En Fuego. On Sunday, Wayne competed in the championship game and picked up a thrilling 34-31 win over Sutton to win their division.  Congratulations on a great end to your season!

 

7th Grade Girls Win Hops Hoops Classic

The Wayne 7th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team took home championship honors at the Hops Hoops Classic in David City on Sunday, March 6th. Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket alongside East Butler, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family and Pierce.

Wayne opened the day with a solid 22-11 win over Pierce and then picked up their second win of the day with a dominant 42-3 victory over East Butler.  In their final contest, Wayne was able to hold off Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 22-14 to finish 3-0 on the day to take first-place honors.

6th Grade Girls Win Championship at David City

The Wayne 6th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team won gold at the Hops Hoops Classic in David City on Saturday, March 5th.  Wayne competed in a six-team bracket alongside Aquinas, Wahoo Neumann, Tekamah-Herman, Raymond Central and Centennial.

In pool play, Wayne opened the tournament with a 16-5 win over Raymond Central and then followed up with a thrilling 12-10 win over Centennial to advance to the gold medal game.  In the final, Wayne was matched up with Tekamah-Herman and picked up a great 13-11 win to nab first-place honors.  Congratulations coaches and players!

6th Grade Boys Runner-Up at Hops Hoops Classic

The WBDA 6th Grade Boys basketball team took home runner-up honors at the Hops Hoops Classic in David City on Saturday, March 5th. Wayne competed in a six-team bracket along with Aquinas, Norfolk Catholic, Norris, Milford and Shelby/Rising City.

Wayne was able to pick up victories in pool play over Milford and Shelby/Rising City to advance to the championship game with a 2-0 record.  In the final, Wayne fell in a tight contest to Norfolk Catholic by a score of 21-17 to finish as tournament runner-up.

5th Grade Boys Runner-Up at David City

The 5th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed at the Hops Hoops Classic in David City on Saturday, March 5th.  Wayne competed in a big eight-team bracket along with Aquinas, Milford, Twin River, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, Sandy Creek, Pierce and Howells-Dodge.

Wayne opened up play with a 18-11 win over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and followed that up with a 40-33 win over Milford in the semifinals.  Wayne fell in the championship game to Sandy Creek to finish 2-1 on the day and take home runner-up honors.

4th Grade Boys Win Hops Hoops Classic

The Wayne WBDA 4th Grade Boys basketball team wrapped up their season with a first place finish at the Hops Hoops Classic in David City on Sunday, March 6th.  Wayne competed in a six-team bracket against Aquinas Gray, Aquinas White, Milford, Milford Black (5th) and Howells-Dodge.

In pool play, Wayne opened the day with a tough 29-22 loss to Milford Black (5th Grade) but bounced back with a dominant 52-12 win over Aquinas Gray.  Wayne won the tie-breaker within the pool to advance to the championship game. In that final, Wayne battled back and forth in a defensive contest and came away with the game-winning bucket with under ten seconds remaining to record a 16-15 win over Milford.
