Colson Nelsen is the 2021 Kyle Straight Memorial Award Recipient

The Kyle Straight Memorial Basketball Award is presented to an 8th Grade Wayne Boys Basketball Player who best exemplifies the love of the game and a positive attitude that Kyle displayed.

 

This year the WBDA Board selected Colson Nelsen as the 2021 recipient.

 

The plaque displaying past recipients is at the Wayne Community Activity Center.

2021 WBDA Scholarship Winners announced Honors Night

April 30, 2021 – At the Wayne High Honors Night several students were acknowledged for their hard work and dedication. The WBDA Board of Directors planned to award two $500 scholarships to recognize a female and male Wayne High student who had shown dedication in the classroom, to the community and to the sport of basketball. The Board took special consideration to those individuals who played in the Wayne Basketball Development Association (WBDA) and continued to be involved in basketball through High School.

 

The recipients of this year’s WBDA Scholarship Award were Emily Longe and Jacob Kneifl.

5th Grade Girls Finish 1st in David City

Sunday, March 7th, the 5th grade girls completed their season by winning the Hops Hoops Tournament in David City on Sunday, March 7.  Wayne opened the day with a 14-7 win over Grand Island No Limit and followed that up with a 23-6 win over David City Aquinas and wrapped up the championship with a 23-17 win against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.

5th Grade Girls Finish 2nd in Wayne

Sunday, February 21, the 5th grade girls competed in the WBDA Tournament in Wayne.  The girls finished runner-up defeating Norfolk and West Holt in pool play before falling to Pender in the championship game.  Congrats players and coaches!

7th & 8th Grade Girls Finish 1st in Wayne Tournament

Sunday, February 21, the 7th & 8th grade girls competed in the WBDA Clash of the Plains Tournament.  Wayne was placed in a 4 team round-robin bracket with Crofton, Norfolk Catholic, and David City Aquinas.  Wayne competed hard throughout the tournament, winning all three of their games.  Congrats to the players and coaches!

8th Grade Boys Finish 2nd in Wayne

Sunday, February 21, the 8th grade boys competed in the WBDA Clash of the Plains Tournament.  Wayne was placed in a 6 team division with Elkhorn Valley, West Holt, Norfolk, Hartington Cedar, and Plainview.  Wayne first competed against Elkhorn Valley and West Holt, finishing both games with wins.  The 2 wins put Wayne in the Championship Game vs Hartington Cedar.  Wayne played a hard fought game, but fell short and finished the tournament with 2nd place.  Congrats to the players and coaches!

2020 WBDA Scholarship Winners announced at the Virtual Honors Night

May 1, 2020 – Wayne High held a Virtual Honors Night presentation to acknowledge several students for their hard work and dedication. The WBDA Board of Directors planned to award two $500 scholarships to recognize a female and male Wayne High student who had shown dedication in the classroom, to the community and to the sport of basketball. The Board took special consideration to those individuals who played in the Wayne Basketball Development Association (WBDA) and continued to be involved in basketball through High School.

 

The recipients of this year’s WBDA Scholarship Award were Frankie Klausen and Tyrus Eischeid.

Caiden Backer is the 2020 Kyle Straight Memorial Award Recipient

WBDA Tournament 2020 – Clash of the Plains

February 22 & 23, 2020

This year’s Wayne WBDA Youth Basketball Tournament was a Great Success.  The tournament started on Saturday with teams playing at the Community Activity Center, City Auditorium, Wayne High and Wayne Elementary gyms.  On Sunday, Jr. High teams competed at the Community Activity Center, Wayne High and Wayne Elementary gyms.  The tournament brought over 3000 people to Wayne America to experience 109 games between 73 teams, representing 28 towns in 2 days.

 

The WBDA Board would like to extend a special thank you to the over 200 Volunteers, Tournament Sponsors, WBDA Sponsors, Referees, and the Tournament Committee for making the tournament a special and memorable experience for all those who participated and attended.  Without ALL of you, this tournament would not be possible.
