4th Grade Girls take 1st Place

Saturday, February 17, the 4th grade WBDA girls competed in the Clash of the Plains tournament in Wayne, NE.  Wayne was in a 3-team round robin tournament with Pender and O’Neill.  In the first game versus Pender, Wayne was in a battle throughout the game but finished with a 13-9 win. In the second game, Wayne faced a tough O’Neill team. Both teams played hard for 32 minutes and at the end of regulation the game was tied and went into overtime.  In overtime, Wayne was able to gain the advantage and finish with a 14-12 win.  Congrats players and coaches on your 1st place finish! #wayneyouthbasketball

4th Grade Boys Finish with 3rd Place

Saturday, February 17, the 4th Grade WBDA Boys competed in the Clash of the Plains tourney in Wayne, NE. The team was placed in a 6-team pool play division. The “Blue” pool included Wayne, Laurel and Holy Trinity. The “White” pool included Pender, Wynot and Elkhorn Valley. Wayne played well in their opening game against Laurel winning 27-3.  In their second game versus Holy Trinity, Wayne played a hard fought game and at the end of regulation, the game was tied and headed into overtime.  In overtime, Holy Trinity came out with the win, 17-14.  By going 1-1 in their two pool play games, Wayne  was set to play Wynot for 3rd place.  The final game was close and highly competitive.  Neither team would not let the other gain a clear lead.  At the final buzzer, Wayne was leading 26-24 and finished the tournament with 3rd place.  Congratulations Players and Coaches on the 3rd Place Finish! #wayneyouthbasketball

WBDA Tournament 2018 – Clash of the Plains

February 17/18, 2018

This year’s Wayne WBDA Youth Basketball Tournament was a Great Success.  The tournament started on Saturday at the Community Activity Center with the 4th grade boys & girls teams along with the 6th grade girls followed by the 5th grade boys teams.  The City Auditorium hosted the 5th grade girls while the 6th grade boys and girls teams competed at Wayne High and Wayne Elementary gyms.  On Sunday, Jr. High teams competed with the 7th grade girls and boys at the Community Activity Center while the 8th grade teams competed at the Wayne High and Wayne Elementary gyms.  The tournament brought over 3000 people to Wayne America to experience 94 games between 64 teams, representing 23 towns in 2 days.

 

The WBDA Board would like to extend a special thank you to the over 200 Volunteers, Tournament Sponsors, WBDA Sponsors, Referees, and the Tournament Committee for making the tournament a special and memorable experience for all those who participated and attended.  Without ALL of you, this tournament would not be possible.

8th Grade Girls take 2nd Place in The Clash of the Plains Tournament

Sunday, February 18, the 8th grade WBDA girls competed in the Clash of the Plains tournament in Wayne, NE.  The girls were in an 8-team bracket with Osmond, Elkhorn Valley, O’Neill, Crofton, Christ Lutheran, Lady Elite and Hartington Cedar.  In Wayne’s first game, they beat Osmond 32-12 with pressure defense and strong rebounding.  In the girl’s second game, they faced O’Neill.  The Wayne girls maintained a strong lead throughout the game with great shooting and transition offense.  In the Championship game, Wayne faced the Lady Elite.  In the first half, Wayne struggled with the Elite full court press, but stayed strong and competitive in the second half by making it a close game with less than 2 minutes.  In the end, Wayne was not able to catch the Elite and finished the tournament with a second place finish.  Congrats coaches and girls on a great tournament! #wayneyouthbasketball

 

 

4th Grade Boys Finish 2nd at the NEN Tournament

Saturday, February 10th, the 4th grade WBDA boy’s team competed in the NEN tournament in Norfolk, NE.  The 4th grade boys division consisted of four teams; Wayne, Norfolk Catholic, Hartington Cedar and Columbus Rocks.  In Wayne’s first game against Columbus, the boys jumped out to an early lead and were able to hold on for a 12-point win.  In the second game, Wayne played Hartington Cedar.  Cedar got the best of Wayne in the second contest to put Wayne at 1-1 going into their third and final game of the day.  In the final game, the Wayne boys played Norfolk Catholic.  Wayne fought hard throughout and were able to hold off NC by 8 points for the win.  By going 2-1 for the day, Wayne finished in 2nd place.  Congrats players and coaches!  #wayneyouthbasketball

It’s Tournament Time in Wayne America!

Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18 will be the Annual WBDA “Clash of the Plains” Wayne Youth Basketball Tournament.

 

On Saturday, games start at 9:00 am. Boys and girls grades 4th through 6th will be playing Saturday with games at the Wayne Activity Center, Wayne City Auditorium, Wayne Elementary and Wayne High School.

 

On Sunday, games start at 11:00 for boys & girls 7th through 8th grades. Sunday games are at the Wayne Activity Center, Wayne Elementary and Wayne High School.

8th Grade Girls Finish 2nd at Norfolk

Saturday, February 10, the 8th grade WBDA girls competed in the NEN Tournament in Norfolk, NE.  Wayne was in a 3-team round robin tournament with Humphrey Christian Holy Family and Norfolk Catholic.  In the first game versus HCHF, Wayne was in a battle throughout the game but only turned the ball over five times, which helped them finish with a 33-29 win.  In the second game, Wayne faced a tough Norfolk Catholic team.  Both teams took advantage of their strengths with Wayne using transition offense & pressure defense to score and NC using their size inside the paint.  At the end of regulation, the game was tied at 33.  After two overtimes, Wayne fell to Norfolk Catholic, 36-34.  By losing to Norfolk, Wayne finished 2nd place in a tough round robin tournament.  Congrats players and coaches on a well played tournament!  #wayneyouthbasketball

 

 

 

 

 

4th Grade Girls Take 1st Place at the NEN

Saturday, February 10th, the 4th Grade WBDA Girls competed in the NEN tourney in Norfolk, NE.  The team was placed in a 6-team pool play division.  In pool “black” was Norfolk Catholic Red, Wayne and the West Holt Huskies.  In pool “Red” was Norfolk Catholic White, Columbus Rocks and the Norfolk Panthers.    Wayne competed well in their pool beating NC Red 14-10 and beating West Holt 8-1.  By winning both their pool play games, Wayne was placed in the championship game versus Norfolk Catholic White.  In the Championship game Wayne competed well and finished with a 14-6 win.  Congratulations Players and Coaches on the 1st Place Finish!  #wayneyouthbasketball

 

 

 

5th Boys Take 1st Place in Norfolk

Saturday, February 10th the 5th Grade WBDA boys competed in the NEN tournament in Norfolk, NE.  The team played in a 4-team round robin division, which included Wayne, North Bend, Norfolk Panthers and Norfolk Catholic.  Wayne’s first two games were played back-to-back.  In first game versus North Bend, Wayne jumped out to a quick lead and maintained the advantage throughout the game.  The second game versus the Norfolk Panthers was a close contest from start to finish.  Wayne rebounded well and limited their turnovers to help them get their second win of the day.  In Wayne’s final game, they faced Norfolk Catholic.  Wayne pushed the ball well getting layups and easy baskets, which led them to go 3-0 for the day earning 1st place in the tournament.  Congratulation players and coaches!  #wayneyouthbasketball

 

 

6th Grade Boys Finish 1st at the NEN Tournament

Sunday, February 11, the 6th grade boys WBDA team competed in the NEN tournament in Norfolk, NE. The 6th grade boys division consisted of four teams; Wayne, Bassett, Norfolk Lutheran and the Norfolk Jr. Panthers. Wayne first played Bassett and came away with a solid.  In their second game versus Norfolk Lutheran, Wayne found themselves down 29-14 at half time, but played hard in the second half to finish with a 36-35 win on a last second shot.  In Wayne’s last game they beat the Jr. Panthers to finish the day 3-0 and a 1st place finish.  Congratulations players and coaches! #wayneyouthbasketball
