The 6th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed in their home “Clash of the Plains” Tournament on Saturday, February 15th.  Wayne competed in a six-team division along with Cedar Catholic, Crofton, Laurel, Osmond and Wisner.

In pool play, Wayne opened play with a 60-11 win over Osmond and then picked up a 51-32 win over Crofton to advance to the championship game.  In the finals, Wayne recorded a 55-39 win over Cedar Catholic to take home the tournament championship for the third consecutive year. Congratulations players and coaches.

The Junior High Girls WBDA basketball team competed in their home tournament on Sunday, February 16th, competing in a six-team bracket along with Crofton, Elkhorn Valley, Humphrey/Lindsay, Plainview, and Summerland.

In pool play, Wayne picked up a 29-12 victory over Crofton to start the day off, and then followed up with a 45-23 win over Summerland to advance to the championship game.  In the final, Wayne fell to Plainview to take home second-place honors.  Congratulations 7th and 8th grade girls on an outstanding tournament.

The 5th/6th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team competed in their home “Clash of the Plains” tournament on Saturday, February 15th. Wayne competed in a full 8-team bracket along with Cedar Catholic, Hartington-Newcastle, Logan View, Neligh-Oakdale, Norfolk Catholic, Ponca and Wisner.

Wayne defeated Wisner 20-8 to open tournament play, and in the semifinals, defeated Neligh-Oakdale 24-10.  The championship game was a highly competitive game that saw Ponca edge out a last-second 30-26 win over Wayne, giving Wayne runner-up honors.

The WBDA 4th grade girls basketball team won their division of their home Clash of the Plains Tournament on Saturday, February 15th.  Wayne played in a three-team pool, defeating Laurel 33-25 and Humphrey/Lindsay 28-20 to take home first place honors.  Congratulations ladies!

The 7th/8th Grade Girls WBDA Basketball team competed in the Pierce Tournament on Sunday, February 2nd.  The junior high girls went 3-0 on the day, defeating Summerland and Wisner to open up competition and then defeating O’Neill 31-21 in the final game of the day to take home the tournament championship.  Congratulations ladies!

The 5th/6th Grade Girls WBDA Basketball Team took part in the Pierce Tournament on Sunday, February 2nd.  Wayne went 3-0 on the day, picking up victories over Bloomfield, Creighton and Wakefield to take home gold medal honors.  Congratulations on your tournament championship!

The 4th grade girls WBDA basketball team competed in the Siouxland Sports Academy February Frenzy Tournament in Sioux City on Saturday and Sunday, February 1st and 2nd.  Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket.  On Saturday, Wayne dropped their opening game to the Whirling Thunder, but rebounded with a 22-15 win over Vermillion, South Dakota. On Sunday, the Wayne girls picked up a 23-15 win over Hinton Gold (Iowa) to finish 2-1 in the tournament and take home second place honors.

The 5th/6th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team competed in the Future Stars Hoops Classic in North Sioux City, South Dakota on Saturday, January 25th.  Wayne played in a four-team round-robin bracket, going 3-0 on the day defeating Winnebago, Woodbury Central and Okoboji to win the tournament championship.  Congratulations girls!

The 6th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team continued a successful season by winning the Crofton Tournament on Saturday, January 25. Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket.  In their first game, the Wayne boys defeated host Crofton 38-29 and followed that up with a 26-6 win over Boyd County.  In the final game of the day, Wayne picked up a victory over a good Ponca team by the score of 39-27 to finish 3-0 on the day and as tournament champions.  Congratulations 6th grade boys!

The 7th/8th Grade girls kicked off their WBDA season at the Crofton Tournament on Saturday, January 25th.  Wayne competed in a six-team bracket along with Atkinson, Cedar Catholic, Crofton Plainview, and Summerland.  Wayne kicked off the day with a tough 27-26 loss to Plainview, and followed that up with a 27-18 win over Atkinson and finally a 30-19 win over Summerland to earn a third place finish.  Congrats on a great start to your season junior high girls!
