7th Grade Boys Take Second at MIT

The Wayne 7th Grade Boys basketball team competed in the MIT Tournament in Lincoln on March 15-16.  Wayne competed in a six-team bracket along with Auburn, Lincoln Legends, Lincoln Northwest, Sutton and Winnebago.

In pool play, Wayne started the day with a 47-39 win over the Lincoln Legends and followed that up with a 43-39 victory over Auburn to win their pool.  Wayne then met the winner of the second pool, Sutton, in the championship game.  In the final, Sutton was able to pull away in a very competitive contest with a 41-36 victory to give Wayne runner-up honors.

5th Grade Boys Win MIT Championship

The WBDA 5th Grade Boys basketball team competed in the MIT Tournament in Lincoln on March 15-16.  Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket and started the day with a 34-21 win over the Lincoln Knights and then defeated the Lincoln Monarchs 31-16.  In the championship game on Sunday, Wayne took on Norris Black and came away with a dominant 31-15 victory, going 3-0 on the day and claiming the championship of their division.

Freshmen/Sophomore Girls Take Second at MIT

Some former WBDA basketball players got back into action, as the freshman and sophomore girls came together to play in the high school division of the MIT Tournament in Lincoln on Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16.

Wayne competed in a four-team, round-robin bracket.  On Saturday, Wayne started strong and picked up a 32-14 win over Walthill and a 27-20 win over Winnebago.

Sunday’s championship game saw Wayne matched up with Mount Ayr (Iowa).  The game was a highly competitive, back-and-forth contest that ultimately went into overtime where Mount Ayr would come away with a 37-35 victory.

Congratulations to the high school girls on a fantastic tournament.

The WBDA Junior High girls basketball team competed at the Midwest Invitational Tournament in Lincoln on March 15 and 16, competing in a six-team division along with Falls City Sacred Heart, Grand Island No Limit, Lincoln Cornhusker Shooting Stars, Palmyra and Winnebago.

In pool play, Wayne went 2-0 picking up a 32-21 win over the Cornhusker Shooting Stars and a 25-15 win over Palmyra.  Wayne would move into Sunday’s championship game to take on the winner of the opposite pool, Winnebago.  The championship game saw Winnebago start hot, but Wayne fought back to make it a tight contest in the end, with Winnebago taking the game 39-30 giving Wayne runner-up honors.  Congratulations on a great season to the junior high girls!

 

5th/6th Girls Take Second Place at MIT

The 5th/6th Grade Girls WBDA Basketball team competed at the MIT Tournament in Lincoln on March 15 and 16.  Wayne competed in an 8-team bracket with Auburn, Falls City, Lincoln ABA, Lincoln Knights, Palmyra, St. Joseph (Missouri), and Summerland.

Wayne opened up with a 24-10 victory over the Lincoln Knights and then recorded a 39-21 win over Summerland in the semifinals.  In the championship game Wayne met the St. Joseph (Missouri) Dynasty and suffered a 22-13 loss to finish 2-1 and as runner-up in their bracket.  Congratulations on a great season 5th/6th girls!

4th Grade Girls Runner-Up at MIT

The 4th grade girls competed at the Midwest Invitational Tournament in Lincoln on March 15th and 16th. Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket picking up a 12-5 win over the Lincoln Stars. Wayne then suffered a 27-19 loss to the Lincoln Jayhawks before bouncing back with a 11-7 win over Winnebago to finish 2-1 and as runner-up in the bracket.

6th Grade Boys Runner-Up at NEN Tournament

The 6th grade boys WBDA basketball team competed in the NEN Tournament in Norfolk on Saturday, February 22.  Wayne competed in a four-team pool with Cedar Catholic, Humphrey/Lindsay and Norfolk Catholic.

Wayne opened play with a highly competitive 40-35 win over Cedar Catholic and followed that up with a 35-33 win over Humphrey/Lindsay.  In the final game of the day, Wayne went back and forth with Norfolk Catholic, ultimately falling 54-50 in double-overtime to finish 2-1 on the day and as runner-up in their division in another great game.

4th Grade Girls Win NEN Basketball Tournament

The 4th grade girls WBDA basketball team competed in and won their division of the NEN Basketball Tournament in Norfolk on Saturday, February 22nd. Competing in a four-team pool with a round-robin format, Wayne was able to pick up victories over Battle Creek and Columbus Scotus.  The final game of the day was a thrilling back-and-forth contest against Norfolk, with Wayne sinking a late score to pull away with a 26-24 victory.    Congratulations 4th graders on your championship!

6th Grade Boys Win Clash of the Plains Tournament

The 6th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed in their home “Clash of the Plains” Tournament on Saturday, February 15th.  Wayne competed in a six-team division along with Cedar Catholic, Crofton, Laurel, Osmond and Wisner.

In pool play, Wayne opened play with a 60-11 win over Osmond and then picked up a 51-32 win over Crofton to advance to the championship game.  In the finals, Wayne recorded a 55-39 win over Cedar Catholic to take home the tournament championship for the third consecutive year. Congratulations players and coaches.

 

7th/8th Grade Girls Runner-Up at Clash of the Plains Tournament

The Junior High Girls WBDA basketball team competed in their home tournament on Sunday, February 16th, competing in a six-team bracket along with Crofton, Elkhorn Valley, Humphrey/Lindsay, Plainview, and Summerland.

In pool play, Wayne picked up a 29-12 victory over Crofton to start the day off, and then followed up with a 45-23 win over Summerland to advance to the championship game.  In the final, Wayne fell to Plainview to take home second-place honors.  Congratulations 7th and 8th grade girls on an outstanding tournament.
