The Wayne Freshmen/Sophomore girls basketball players also took part in the Midwest Invitational Tournament in Lincoln on March 14-15. Wayne competed in a five-team bracket along with Malvern (Iowa), Sterling, Walthill and Wymore Southern.
Wayne opened tournament play with a 41-23 win over Walthill and followed that up later in the day on Saturday with a 57-19 win over Sterling. Moving into Sunday, Wayne would face a rematch with Walthill and again came away with a victory, 36-24.
Advancing to the championship game, Wayne faced Wymore Southern in a game that featured two very evenly matched teams. In the end Southern would walk away with a 36-30 win, giving Wayne runner-up honors.
