Player registration for the 2022-2023 WBDA basketball season will take place on Tuesday, November 1st, and Thursday, November 3rd from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Community Activity Center. Visit our registration page for more details and sign-up forms.
The Kyle Straight Memorial Basketball Award is presented to an 8th Grade Wayne Boys Basketball Player who best exemplifies the love of the game and a positive attitude that Kyle displayed.
This year the WBDA Board selected Jace Jorgensen as the 2022 recipient.
The plaque displaying past recipients is located at the Wayne Community Activity Center.

The 7th Grade Girls WBDA Basketball team capped off their season with a first-place finish at the Lincoln MIT Tournament this past weekend. Wayne competed in a six-team bracket along with Lincoln Lady Warriors, Sutton, Walthill, Syracuse and the Lincoln 76ers.
Wayne opened pool play on Saturday with wins over Sutton (35-8) and the Lincoln Lady Warriors (24-21). Wayne then advanced to the championship game where they defeated Walthill 37-15 to take home a gold medal. Congratulations ladies and coaches on a great finish to your season!
The 6th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team wrapped up their 2021-22 season with a runner-up finish at the Lincoln MIT Tournament this past weekend. Wayne competed in a seven-team bracket along with St. Joseph (Missouri), Shenandoah (Iowa), Sutton, Lincoln Flight, Lincoln Cornhusker Shooting Stars, and Arlington.
Wayne opened play on Saturday with a 28-12 win over Arlington. The 6th grade girls then moved into Sunday and started the day with a tough 33-25 loss to eventual-champion Shenandoah (Iowa). The Wayne girls closed out play with a 21-13 win over the Lincoln Cornhusker Shooting Stars to end with a 2-1 record and a runner-up finish. Congratulations players and coaches on a great season!
The 5th grade girls WBDA basketball team wrapped up their season competing in the Lincoln MIT Tournament this past weekend. Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket. Wayne opened play on Saturday with a 23-18 win over Falls City Sacred Heart. Moving onto Sunday, Wayne fell to eventual champion Norris before rebounding to defeat Lincoln Champions 17-7 to finish 2-1 in the division and earn a silver medal. Congratulations on a successful season 5th grade girls!
The WBDA 7th Grade Boys team competed in the Lincoln MIT Tournament last week and brought home a third place finish in a six-team bracket. Joining Wayne in the tournament were Lincoln NLU, David City Aquinas, Howells-Dodge, Johnson-Brock and the Lincoln Monarchs. Wayne opened pool play with a 27-12 win over David City Aquinas on Saturday, then dropped a tight contest to Lincoln NLU to end 1-1 in pool play. Wayne rebounded with a 30-26 win over Johnson-Brock in the third-place game to take home a bronze medal. Congratulations on your season 7th grade boys!
The Wayne WBDA 6th grade boys team took home runner-up honors at the Lincoln MIT Tournament this past weekend. Wayne completed in a six-team bracket along with Walthill, Syracuse, Omaha Kings, Lincoln Skyhawks and Platteview. Wayne opened the tournament by defeating Platteview 47-27 and the Lincoln Skyhawks 34-14 in pool play before falling to Walthill in a closely contested championship game to take home a silver medal. Congratulations on a great season sixth graders!
The 7th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed at the Hop’s Hoops Classic in David City on Saturday, March 5th and went 3-0 in a large 10-team bracket. Wayne opened play with a 40-27 win over David City Aquinas and followed that up with a 35-17 win over Centennial. In the final game of the day, the 7th grade boys defeated Shelby/Rising City to end the day undefeated and win the 7th grade portion of the bracket.
The 8th grade girls WBDA team competed in the Hop’s Hoops Classic in David City on Sunday, March 6th and brought home first place honors with a 3-0 record on the day. Wayne picked up wins over Seward, David City Aquinas Gray and David City Aquinas White to win the bracket and gold medal honors. Congrats team!
