The Wayne 6th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team won gold at the Hops Hoops Classic in David City on Saturday, March 5th.  Wayne competed in a six-team bracket alongside Aquinas, Wahoo Neumann, Tekamah-Herman, Raymond Central and Centennial.

In pool play, Wayne opened the tournament with a 16-5 win over Raymond Central and then followed up with a thrilling 12-10 win over Centennial to advance to the gold medal game.  In the final, Wayne was matched up with Tekamah-Herman and picked up a great 13-11 win to nab first-place honors.  Congratulations coaches and players!

The WBDA 6th Grade Boys basketball team took home runner-up honors at the Hops Hoops Classic in David City on Saturday, March 5th. Wayne competed in a six-team bracket along with Aquinas, Norfolk Catholic, Norris, Milford and Shelby/Rising City.

Wayne was able to pick up victories in pool play over Milford and Shelby/Rising City to advance to the championship game with a 2-0 record.  In the final, Wayne fell in a tight contest to Norfolk Catholic by a score of 21-17 to finish as tournament runner-up.

The 5th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed at the Hops Hoops Classic in David City on Saturday, March 5th.  Wayne competed in a big eight-team bracket along with Aquinas, Milford, Twin River, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, Sandy Creek, Pierce and Howells-Dodge.

Wayne opened up play with a 18-11 win over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder and followed that up with a 40-33 win over Milford in the semifinals.  Wayne fell in the championship game to Sandy Creek to finish 2-1 on the day and take home runner-up honors.

The Wayne WBDA 4th Grade Boys basketball team wrapped up their season with a first place finish at the Hops Hoops Classic in David City on Sunday, March 6th.  Wayne competed in a six-team bracket against Aquinas Gray, Aquinas White, Milford, Milford Black (5th) and Howells-Dodge.

In pool play, Wayne opened the day with a tough 29-22 loss to Milford Black (5th Grade) but bounced back with a dominant 52-12 win over Aquinas Gray.  Wayne won the tie-breaker within the pool to advance to the championship game. In that final, Wayne battled back and forth in a defensive contest and came away with the game-winning bucket with under ten seconds remaining to record a 16-15 win over Milford.

The 8th Grade Boys WBDA Basketball team competed in the NEN Tournament on Saturday, February 25th and came away with a runner-up finish. Wayne opened tournament play with a close loss to Crofton, but rebounded to pick up back-to-back wins over the Walnut Warriors (Grand Island) and Madison to finish 2-1 on the day, earning a silver medal.

The 6th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed in the NEN Tournament on Saturday, February 25th, winning their division with a 3-0 record.  Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket and opened play with a solid victory over O’Neill.  Wayne faced a tough battle in their second contest, but picked up a dramatic overtime victory over Crofton. In their final game, Wayne had another competitive contest and was able to come away with a 33-31 victory over Norfolk Catholic for a perfect record and a gold medal.

The Wayne 5th Grade Boys WBDA Team competed in the NEN Tournament on Sunday, February 26th and came home with first-place honors.  Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket and picked up wins over Norfolk, Norfolk Catholic and Hartington Cedar Catholic en route to a 3-0 record and the gold medal!

The Wayne 4th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team competed in the NEN Tournament in Norfolk on Saturday, February 25th in a four-team round-robin bracket.  Wayne opened tournament play with a 28-12 win over Pierce and followed that up with a 43-9 victory over Hartington-Newcastle.

Wayne found itself in a very competitive battle in the championship game with Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.  The game was close the entire way, with Wayne grabbing its first lead of the game with just over a minute to play and then holding on for a 29-28 victory to end the day with a 3-0 record and the tournament championship.

The Wayne 8th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team competed in the NEN Tournament in Norfolk on Sunday, February 26th and came home with first-place honors.  Wayne competed in a four-team round-robin bracket and started off tournament play with a 24-22 win over Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.  In their second contest, Wayne rallied from a large halftime deficit to come back and defeat Hartington Cedar Catholic 21-17.

Wayne capped off their tournament play with a solid 29-17 win over North Central (Bassett) to go 3-0 on the day for first place honors.

The 7th grade girls WBDA basketball team competed at the NEN Tournament in Norfolk on Sunday, February 26th and competed in a six-team bracket along with Columbus Scotus, Hartington-Newcastle, Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, Norfolk Catholic, and Pierce.

Wayne opened pool play with a 25-14 win over Norfolk Catholic and then held off a feisty Hartington-Newcastle team to pick up a 27-23 win in double overtime to advance out of pool play into the championship game.  In the final, Wayne was able to record a solid 30-22 win over Columbus Scotus to win the 7th grade division and take home a gold medal.
