5th Grade Boys Runner-Up at Columbus Winter Frenzy

The WBDA 5th Grade Boys basketball team opened their season at the SCB Winter Frenzy in Columbus on Sunday, January 29th.  Wayne opened play with a 34-8 win over Anchor Hoops (Columbus) and then recorded a dominant 43-5 win over Viking Hoops White (Lakeview).  Wayne then fell in the championship game to MBA Wildcats Select (Millard West) 39-22 to finish as runner-up.

6th Grade Girls Runner-Up at Crofton Tournament

The 6th grade girls WBDA basketball team opened up their season at the Crofton Tournament on Saturday, January 21st.  Wayne opened pool play with a 11-4 win over Crofton and followed that up with an exciting 18-16 overtime win over Norfolk Catholic.  Wayne fell in a close championship contest to Bloomfield to take home runner-up honors.

6th Grade Boys Take Runner-Up at Stanton

The 6th Grade Boys WBDA basketball team kicked off their season on Sunday, January 15th at the Stanton Tournament. Wayne was able to pick up big victories over Wisner-Pilger and Stanton before falling in a close contest to Anchor Hoops out of Columbus to finish as tournament runner-up.  Great start to your season fellas!

WBDA 7th/8th Grade Girls Win at Elkhorn Valley

The 7th and 8th grade girls WBDA teams traveled to Tilden on Saturday, January 7th for a couple of games against Elkhorn Valley.  In a two quarter 7th grade game, Wayne picked up a 15-9 victory. In the four quarter 7/8 combined contest, Wayne secured a 31-26 win over a very good Falcons team.  Congratulations girls!

4th Grade Boys Open Season with Runner-Up finish in North Bend

The 4th grade boys WBDA basketball team opened their season and careers at the North Bend Optimist Tournament. Wayne competed in a six-team division and came away with a runner-up finish. Wayne opened up the day with an 18-8 win over Guardian Angels Central Catholic White and finished pool play with a 28-13 win over Raymond Central to advance to the championship game.  The final saw Wayne battle Milford in a great game and fell just short, 28-23 to take home runner-up honors.  Congratulations boys!

Jace Jorgensen is the 2022 Kyle Straight Memorial Award Recipient

The Kyle Straight Memorial Basketball Award is presented to an 8th Grade Wayne Boys Basketball Player who best exemplifies the love of the game and a positive attitude that Kyle displayed.

 

This year the WBDA Board selected Jace Jorgensen as the 2022 recipient.

 

The plaque displaying past recipients is located at the Wayne Community Activity Center.

7th Grade Girls Crowned Champions at Lincoln MIT Tournament

The 7th Grade Girls WBDA Basketball team capped off their season with a first-place finish at the Lincoln MIT Tournament this past weekend.  Wayne competed in a six-team bracket along with Lincoln Lady Warriors, Sutton, Walthill, Syracuse and the Lincoln 76ers.

Wayne opened pool play on Saturday with wins over Sutton (35-8) and the Lincoln Lady Warriors (24-21).  Wayne then advanced to the championship game where they defeated Walthill 37-15 to take home a gold medal.  Congratulations ladies and coaches on a great finish to your season!

6th Grade Girls Runner-Up at Lincoln MIT

The 6th Grade Girls WBDA basketball team wrapped up their 2021-22 season with a runner-up finish at the Lincoln MIT Tournament this past weekend.  Wayne competed in a seven-team bracket along with St. Joseph (Missouri), Shenandoah (Iowa), Sutton, Lincoln Flight, Lincoln Cornhusker Shooting Stars, and Arlington.

Wayne opened play on Saturday with a 28-12 win over Arlington.  The 6th grade girls then moved into Sunday and started the day with a tough 33-25 loss to eventual-champion Shenandoah (Iowa).  The Wayne girls closed out play with a 21-13 win over the Lincoln Cornhusker Shooting Stars to end with a 2-1 record and a runner-up finish.  Congratulations players and coaches on a great season!
